Verdict/Urteil: |
For seven months in 1984 and 1985, a gang of teenaged gunmen roamed at will in Dallas, Texas, killing victims on the street. Police described the gang as "just a group of friends who liked to shoot people," and Investigator T.J. Barnes explained, "They were killing people because they didn't like their looks, or the way they looked at them." The gang's first victim was 21-year-old John Hahn, gunned down on an East Dallas street without apparent motive, on December 7, 1984. Three months later, on March 15, 1985, John Kane was shot and killed while chasing some youths who had pelted him with beer cans. Juan Cuevas, 20, died on April 6, the victim of another random, senseless shooting. On June 7, 1985, police swept up five of the gang, ages 16 to 18, reporting that a 15-year-old suspect had escaped to Mexico. Charged with three counts of murder, two counts of aggravated assault, plus one count each of burglary, aggravated robbery and attempted murder, the unnamed teens were also suspected of four other East Dallas slayings. |
